Mughal Miniature Wall Plate by Master Artisan Ravi Kumawat
SIZE: 7 inch (diameter)MEDIUM: Natural Colours on Handmade plate mounted on a Wooden base
MAKING OF THE PLATE: The base plate is a cotton canvas pasted onto a moulded plate using tamarind paste. A mixture of chalk powder and multani mitti is applied, dried, and smoothened with stone for a polished canvas. To prevent insect damage we use crushed neem leaves. With multiple layers of coating, drying, and finishing, the complete plate-making process spans three full days.
NATURAL COLOURS: The Mughal Miniature artwork is brought to life using traditional natural pigments, each carefully sourced and prepared. The warm golden hues are derived from Pili Mitti (yellow earth), while the deep greens come from finely ground Hara Bhata stone, with darker tones achieved through increased concentration. The striking reds are made from Hinglu (synthetic cinnabar) or Sindur (vermilion), and soft pink shades emerge from blending red with white chalk. The pure whites, extracted from chalk or limestone, contrast beautifully with the deep blacks created from burnt wood soot. Subtle greys are achieved by mixing black and white, adding depth and dimension to the scene. Framed with a refined golden border, this plate embodies the timeless elegance of Mughal artistry.
Echo of the Highlands
At dawn, the Great Barbet perched on an ancient branch, its emerald and ochre feathers glowing in the golden light. It let out a ringing call, a song that had echoed through the valley for centuries, carried by the crisp mountain air over rustling autumn leaves. Clusters of ruby-red berries hung from delicate branches, hinting at nature’s quiet abundance. With a swift motion, the bird swooped down, savoring the burst of sweetness before taking flight into the misty sky.
This fleeting yet eternal moment is masterfully captured in a Mughal Miniature painting by Ravi Kumawat ji, where every stroke brings the scene to life with exquisite detail. Mounted on a handcrafted plate with a wooden base and a refined golden border, this masterpiece reflects both the beauty of nature and the elegance of miniature artistry.
