MAKING OF THE PLATE: The base plate is a cotton canvas pasted onto a moulded plate using tamarind paste. A mixture of chalk powder and multani mitti is applied, dried, and smoothened with stone for a polished canvas. To prevent insect damage we use crushed neem leaves. With multiple layers of coating, drying, and finishing, the complete plate-making process spans three full days.
NATURAL COLOURS: This exquisite plate is adorned with gold dust, lending it a radiant, timeless glow. The delicate pink lotuses are created using Hinglu (Red)—a vibrant synthetic cinnabar—blended with white limestone to achieve their soft, ethereal hue. To bring the lush greens to life, Hara Bhata (green stone) is carefully ground and filtered, ensuring a rich, pure pigment. The interplay of these striking colors against the opulent golden backdrop adds depth and harmony, making the artwork feel almost alive. Each brushstroke tells a story of tradition, patience, and the artisan’s devotion to preserving beauty through time.
