Pichwai Wall Plate by Master Artsian Kiran Kumar Soni
SIZE: 11 inch (diameter)

MEDIUM: Natural Colours on Handmade plate

MAKING OF THE PLATE: The base plate is a cotton canvas pasted onto a moulded plate using tamarind paste. A mixture of chalk powder and multani mitti is applied, dried, and smoothened with stone for a polished canvas. To prevent insect damage we use crushed neem leaves. With multiple layers of coating, drying, and finishing, the complete plate-making process spans three full days.

NATURAL COLOURS: The warm Narangee (orange), once born from ground cinnabar, mirrors the vibrance of sindoor. Deep black outlines, bold and defining, emerge from carbon lamp black, created by burning mustard or sweet oil and bound with Acacia gum. The serene Neel (blue) flows from the indigo plant, while Hara Bhata (green) is drawn from finely filtered green stone. Every hue-stroke is an amalgamation of generations of experience by master artisans.

Each color undergoes a meticulous elaborate process of sourcing natural materials, cleaning, crushing, mixing with water and adding adhesives.

Stillness of Waiting

  • Here in the Stillness of Waiting, master artisan Kiran Soni Ji, has masterfully crafted a stunning piece depicting Krishna in a moment of longing, waiting for his beloved.

In the golden haze of the afternoon, Vrindavan lay serene under the sun’s warmth, yet the air pulsed with quiet anticipation. Alone, Lord Krishna stood, his deep blue skin glowing like the midnight sky. His golden crown rested lightly, pearls shimmering in the breeze. His dark, fathomless eyes held a tenderness laced with an eternal yearning. Marked with the sacred tilak, even divinity seemed to fade under the weight of his longing. When will she be here?

In that stillness, his soul remained bound to hers, waiting with a hope that would never fade, until at last, she was in his arms again.
