Shekhawati Wall Plate by Master ArtisanBhairunlal Swarankar and Nand Kishore Swarankar
SIZE: 11 inch (diameter)
MEDIUM: Natural Colours on Handmade plate
MAKING OF THE PLATE: The base plate is a cotton canvas pasted onto a moulded plate using tamarind paste. A mixture of chalk powder and multani mitti is applied, dried, and smoothened with stone for a polished canvas. To prevent insect damage we use crushed neem leaves. With multiple layers of coating, drying, and finishing, the complete plate-making process spans three full days.
NATURAL COLOURS: This plate captures a royal hunting scene with warriors clad in Shamrock Green and Sindoor Red, adorned with intricate Golden Ochre details. The horses exhibit a striking contrast—one in Deep Maroon, the other in Ivory White, with Gulabi Pink accents on their legs. The fabric draping them is an interplay of Azure Blue, Vermilion Red, and delicate Saffron Yellow patterns. The galloping black hound, painted in Carbon Black, enhances the sense of movement. Fine floral and geometric motifs on the turbans introduce subtle hints of Rosy Pink, completing the visual harmony. Each color undergoes a meticulous elaborate process of sourcing natural materials, cleaning, crushing, mixing with water and adding adhesives.
Gallant Warriors of Shekhawati
This Shekhawati plate by President Awardee Bhairunlal Swarnkar Ji captures the bravery and pride of Rajput warriors, a classic theme in Shekhawati art. Two warriors, in rich turbans and detailed armor, ride beautifully decorated horses, joined by a black hunting dog which is a symbol of loyalty. The vibrant colors, fine brushwork, and ornate horse patterns reflect the region’s love for detail. Framed by a bold geometric border, the plate brings to life the spirit and storytelling of Rajputana tradition.
