Shekhawati Wall Plate by Master Artisan Bhairunlal Swarankar and Nand Kishore Swarankar

SIZE: 12 inch (diameter)

MEDIUM: Natural Colours on Handmade plate

MAKING OF THE PLATE: The base plate is a cotton canvas pasted onto a moulded plate using tamarind paste. A mixture of chalk powder and multani mitti is applied, dried, and smoothened with stone for a polished canvas. To prevent insect damage we use crushed neem leaves. With multiple layers of coating, drying, and finishing, the complete plate-making process spans three full days.

NATURAL COLOURS: This Shekhawati plate features a geru red base with white floral patterns arranged in perfect rhythm made from limestone. The design reflects traditional haveli wall motifs. Borders in hartaal yellow, ornage and grey add contrast. It’s a simple ode to symmetry, steady craftsmanship, and the rooted patterns of Rajasthani heritage.

  • Bhairunlal Ji spent his youth painting Shekhawati havelis alongside his father, learning to create intricate patterns entirely by hand, without stencils. He passed down this rare skill to his son, Nand Kishore Ji, now a master of geometric tessellations inspired by Shekhawati and Jaipur art. This beautifully hand-painted plate, with its precise radial symmetry, blends floral and fractal forms in a harmonious fusion of tradition and technique, reflecting both heritage and heart.
